Favourite Games

What is everybody's all time favourite games and why? I'll get around to posting mine at a more reasonable time lol

My fave games are generally whatever I happen to be playing at the time. If I had to choose I would probably say, Dragon Age: Origins, Elder Scrolls, Dwarf Fortress and some others I've probably forgotten.

Why do you like them? What about them do you find interesting etc etc

Ok, I'll give you a couple that I love and that I played recently. Is this to do partly with Games Design or are you just curious? Also, ranting ahead.

Zelda: Skyward Sword
You know how much I love the Zelda series, but I'll give some proper reasons why I adore this game.

The environments are beautiful, the dungeons are unique and the boss key... minigame (I suppose I'll call it) is something like I've never seen before and it's rather fun.
It has a magnificant storyline, and the characters feel more lifelike in this; you can really get attached to them. Each character in the game have a different personality, pretty much like in Majora's Mask. The characters also show more emotion compared to other Zelda games. The Gratitude Crystal sidequest help show this. That's another thing I love: collecting the Gratitude Crystals. It really pays off, and helping the ingame characters is fun.
I didn't think the music was that great when I started playing it, but it grew on me. It actually has a very nice musical score.

It's less hack 'n' slash and requires more strategy to defeat monsters. The bosses are also great fun... Although Ghirahim is a bit whimsical... *flails tongue* God, what a weird ass character. I also felt that one of the bosses didn't fit the style of the game. The one that looked like it was meant to be in Monsters Inc. You know the one.
The graphics, in my opinion, are also great. It's something different, and it worked. Even though some people hate the graphics because it's too "cartoony" and they like something more lifelike. Kinda reminds me of the shitstorm that brewed after the whole thing with the Wind Waker graphics. Better leave this rant at that.

Castlvania:Aria of Sorrows
I make this short. What I love about many of the previous Castlevania games is the exploration aspect and the varying areas. Aria of Sorrows has some great looking areas, such as the Inner Quarters and the Top Floor, and they have amazing music to boot.

The monster soul collection is something I really enjoyed from the game. I love collecting things. I probably developed this hobby from games like Super Mario 64 and DK 64. Meh. Anyway, the monster soul collection is fun, and I like the aspect that each soul gives Soma different abilities. Some souls also help Soma get to different parts of the castle.
Some boss battles are also memorable. Balore. That boss was win.



That dude playing is OP btw.

Also, alternate endings. You can play as Julius if you get the bad ending (which is still an epic ending) and go through the castle again. If not, you get fluffy Soma and can continue on. The music that plays when you're playing Julius-"Heart of Fire"- That music is epic.
